Hello soccer players,
Big changes are coming to our league starting this upcoming spring season. Because of escalating costs, your SWSA board has decided to manage the league in a different way. We'll no longer be using Thurston County Parks and Rec to administer our league.
One of the biggest upcoming changes is that starting spring season; all players will be required to have a Washington State Adult Soccer Association (WSASA) player card. Referees will be collecting cards before the start of play and only players that have a card (and are age eligible) will be allowed to play.
Player cards are necessary to cover the liability insurance that the league needs to be able to rent fields. The cards also provide some secondary insurance for players in case of an injury while playing. Additionally, being a WSASA member league opens up a larger pool of referees for SWSA.
WSASA player cards are good for a year from the date of purchase. They cost $30 for single league play and $35 for unlimited play. A single league card is all that you need to play in any or all of the divisions of SWSA (open, O-30 & O-40) and any tournaments that require a card. Players that already have a card for another league will only need to upgrade to the unlimited card to play in our league.
To make the transition to cards easier, SWSA will be hosting a "Player Card Event" at RAC 1 on Saturday, March 24th from noon to 3:00 PM. At the event, players will be able to get their card or renew or upgrade an existing card at a $5 discount. We'll have pickup soccer on the field turf, so bring a light and a dark shirt. Also, please bring a picture (of your face) to the event, suitable to go on your new player card. Make checks payable to WSASA. We'll also be collecting nonperishable food for the food bank.
If you cannot make it to the event, you can send a registration, payment and picture with your team manager or another player and still get the discount. You can get your card online at www.wssa.org, though you will have to mail in a picture and registration and will not get the discount.
Here is some great news. Because of the changes to league administration, you can expect to see significantly reduced team fees all year. In fact, you might even cover the cost of your player card in the spring season.
