"peace is only possible through nonviolence..." FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What agencies and organizations are participating in the local effort to educate people, and particularly children, about the principles and practices of nonviolence?
A. Faith communities, schools, civic organizations, public agencies, and others are participating. So can you. For a list of resources available, go to the Resource List or check the Links and Contacts page.
Q. Where can I/my family go to learn more about nonviolence and related topics during the Season for Nonviolence? And what about reducing violence?
A. There are many educational and other events open to the public during the 2006 Season in the Puget Sound area. Go to the Events page for a calendar.
Q. Who's in charge of the Season for Nonviolence in Thurston County?
A. No one is in charge of everything; each participating agency or organization is in charge of whatever programs or events it's hosting, and many volunteers are involved. This website is a good example: the graphics are donated by Natalie Prooze of the Olympia Artisan's Alliance http://www.olyart.org/natalie and the website itself by Scott Bishop http://www.oly-wa.us . Interfaith Works has agreed to coordinate and publicize activities.
Q. Who can we contact for more information?
A. See the Contacts page for specific individuals involved in various programs and events, or check the Resource List or Events for more detailed information about those. For more written information such as curricula, nonviolent communications books, Gandhi and King quotes, meditations, prayers from different faiths, biographies of Gandhi and King, anger management and conflict resolution materials, Pledges of Nonviolence, or related media (books, films, videos, DVDs) go to our Links page.
Q. Why should I be interested in this, personally? Is this aimed at ME?
A. Yes, you! All you need to do is watch the news or read the newspaper to know our world, our country, our community and even many of our families and youth are struggling with violence these days. Nonviolence starts with the principles and practices we each - individuals, families - know and use each day, and teach to our children, and our children's children. YOU are the building block, the cornerstone of peace ... inner peace, peace in your family, your community, your world.
