The Emergency Overflow Shelter
Each year since 1990, Interfaith Works has organized the Emergency Overflow Shelter to serve as the last resort for single women and women with children when beds at other shelters are full or when individuals are not accepted at other facilities. Between November and April, various congregations host the shelter for two weeks at a time, relying on teams of volunteers to staff overnight shifts, launder bedding, arrange transportation and provide hot meals to the homeless guests. Thanks to everyone who helped the shelter program last winter. 2010-2011 Emergency Overflow Shelter Hosts and Volunteers
Our preparations this year will include close coordination with Interfaith Works’ new homeless advocacy program, SideWalk, which will assist clients to access shelter and other resources they need to get into stable housing.
Beginning November 1, single homeless women in need should call the SideWalk Advocacy Center Shelter HelpLine at 360-515-5620 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to be screened.
Families seeking shelter should call the Family Support Center’s Emergency Shelter Hotline at 360-628-7343.
Please contact the Interfaith Works office for more information, to donate, or to volunteer.
