Singing at the bedside for those in need.

Description:
Threshold Singers honor the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling: some with living, some with dying. The voice, as the original human instrument, is a true and gracious vehicle for compassion and comfort. These singers provide opportunities to share the sacred gifts of our voices at life's thresholds.

Who we are:
We are a diverse group with the shared purpose of singing together for the spiritual comfort to those in need. We sing at bedsides in homes, care facilities, and hospitals upon request from family members or from Hospice or facility staff.

We gather at the bedside in small groups, usually three or four. We sing softly for about 30 minutes. We sing accapella (without instruments), always mindful of the condition and wishes of the person for whom we are singing. We come with a repertoire of soothing songs, many of which were written specifically for threshold singers for providing comfort. Our intention is to create a blanket of comfort and compassion through our songs and our loving presence.

Although our focus is to bring comfort to the bedside, we may also sing at vigils and memorial services where appropriate.

Inspired by the national organization www.ThresholdChoir.org founded by Kate Munger in 2000.
