"Working together, building community..."

Background

The Chronicle ran a story recently that the Yard Birds Theater was closing for the second time because of the new cinema. They were thinking of renting out the theater as one idea, and recognizing the need to be thinking out of the box. A reader interested in preserving farmland thought it might be a good location for showing food and farming films. Then the out of the box idea came: would Yard Birds be interested in becoming the hub for local farms, an indoor/outdoor year around Farmers Market?

When Yard Birds was posed with the question, they said they had already been thinking of the idea and were a 100% yes. They said the next step is for the community to form the organization/s to shape the idea. To help this along, films about local food and farming will be shown every Saturday during December and January to raise awareness and to begin to facilitate some next steps. December film showings will include conversations about this project looking for ideas and suggestions from the community. In January we will hold business meetings between films to start to form an organization/s.

This is a very big undertaking as this is way more than a farmers market, but could be an important and exciting pro-active step given these challenging times. Anyone jazzed by the idea, come to the film showings and bring your brainstorms, questions, ideas, and your neighbor.

Watch for updates on the website. The ball is now in our court. Thank you!
