music holds the key... | Welcome to Sound Kids's website! |
"Sound Kids is pleased to announce the 2012-2013 recipients of the Get in the Groove Project!"
Congratulations to
Olympic View Elementary School, Lacey, WA
and
Hansen Elementary School, Olympia, WA
The Get in the Groove Project is a grant-awarded elementary school level program with the goal of improving efficiency, productivity, and happiness through movement and music.
Have you ever wanted to thread more music and dance throughout your school? Would you like to energize your classroom learning environment or smooth transitions by using movement and song? How about starting a drum club or ukulele group, or playground song-rhythm station?
Sound Kids Drum and Dance serves elementary schools in Thurston County through the Get in the Groove Project, at grant levels ranging from $60 to $2,500 to expand the music and movement opportunities for students and staff. The winning schools will choose from an array of possibilities such as professional development opportunities, volunteer support, and expertise to energize the classrooms, assemblies, playgrounds, and hopefully even the faculty room! If you missed the opportunity to apply for this school year, look out for our next application cycle in the Spring of 2013. Better yet, drop us a line if you'd like to be on our "heads-up" emailing list so that we'll be sure to send you an application for the next round. Email us at soundkidsdd@gmail.com
In addition to the Get in the Groove Project, we also provide workshops for teachers and those who work with kids. Our next workshop is Saturday Oct. 20, 2012. (Please see below.)
We can also come into your school to provide one-time or a series of sessions for students on rhythm and dance. Let us know if you're interested. We'd be happy to talk to you and to tailor our offerings to your school's needs.

Come ready for a fun, energizing day of simple, ready-to-use techniques that will support the way you teach. Use rhythm and movement to help your students increase their focus, attention, recall and develop better peer relations and classroom climate. Connect with other educators and experience the power of brain-compatible teaching. In this workshop, we will process solutions for those aspects of teaching that drain our energy. Dress comfortably with shoes for movement and bring a friend!
