Personal

  • Interests include mothering and international travel.
  • Janine enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her daughter, Jiana, 19, and son, Tristan, 14.

Janine enjoys canning her own tomatoes and plums each season, and giving them away as Christmas presents. She also makes her own pesto, freezing individual portions in ice cube trays for single-sized meals that make for a fast and easy dinner with rainbow noodles.
Janine's son Tristan plays with Melanie at Priest Point Park.
Janine participates with Artswalk, showing her photography. www.janinegatesphotography.com
And most recently, Janine has taken her children to the Middle East: Egypt, Turkey and Jordan.
The family puppy came to them two years ago as a rescue situation. The mother had died on a Sunday, after delivering 15 puppies and were brought into a grooming salon because Animal Services was closed. The staff were madly alternating the feeding of the pups when Janine walked in to pick up her other dog who was done being groomed. They frantically handed Janine the puppy and a milk bottle and said, "Here! Can you feed this one?" And the rest is history.
