Garden Rhapsodies: A Tour for All Gardeners

Don’t miss this annual garden event for the gardener in all of us! Mark your calendars for the 12th Annual Garden Rhapsodies Tour. The tour is July 28th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On this day only, eight normally private gardens open their garden gates and invite the public inside. This unique garden tour features a range of gardening styles, from extremely low-maintenance to meticulously detailed garden rooms, each with a distinct theme. Learn how chickens add to country-style gardening as well as ways that compost in all of its forms can reduce the need for pesticides. Garden Raised Bounty (GRuB) is staffing a demonstration garden for those of us just figuring out how to provide more of our own food needs. Local groups will offer garden-related demonstrations and information, while artists will add to the ambiance, capturing moments in the gardens.

Tickets go on sale July 2nd at local nurseries, the Olympia Federal Savings bank branches, and the Olympia Farmers Market. Tickets are $15 and include a free shuttle bus to all of the gardens. In addition to providing hands-on education, the tour is a benefit for local non-profit groups. The Garden Rhapsodies Tour is a unique partnership between the Thurston County Environmental Health Department, Stream Team, City of Olympia, Washington State University Master Gardeners, Native Plant Salvage Foundation, and the Olympia Symphony Guild. If you would like to have a table at the “community hub,” or need more information about the Garden Rhapsodies Tour, contact Jennifer Johnson at 360-754-3355, ext 7631.
