We serve to empower people to take charge of their own health! FAQs
Who is eligible to visit the OFHC?
Our doors are open to everyone, regardless of income, race, gender,
nationality or age.
Do I have to provide proof of income or financial status?
No. Our services are free to the public, no questions asked. We won’t ask
you about your income, occupation, or anything else not directly related
to your current state of health.
Do I call to make an appointment?
You don’t have to call for herbal consultations. All you have to do is
show up during our open hours (link to hours) and you’ll be seen first
come, first serve. However, if you’re looking for (list specialties)
sessions, you’ll need to call our office and schedule a time, as these
practitioners see patients by appointment only.
What can I expect from an herbal consultation?
It basically goes like this: you’ll come in, fill out an intake form about
your current concerns and health history. Then you’ll be seen by an
herbalist, and they’ll ask you questions about your health history, diet
and lifestyle. With that information and their own clinical analysis,
they’ll recommend a course of herbal treatment. They’ll give you herbal
medicine at no charge to you at the end of the session. Then you’re free
to come back and follow up with us, but that’s not required.
If we feel that you’d best see a medical professional, we’re happy to
refer you and provide you with the information and resources for you to
get the care you need.
I can’t consume any alcohol and therefore can’t take tinctures. Is there
an alternative?
Absolutely. We keep in stock lots of glycerine tinctures for
alcohol-sensitive individuals. Just let the herbalist know.
Where do your herbal medicines come from?
We stock our apothecary a few ways. We get herbs donated from Mountain
Rose Herbs in Eugene, OR and handcraft our own tincture, oils, salves,
capsules and glycerites. We also grown and maintain our own medicinal
garden on the Phoenix Farm in Northwest Olympia, from which we also make
our herbal medicines. We also accept donations for apothecary/tincture
bottles, which go through a rigorous cleaning and sterilization process
before use. This way, we’re able to provide high-quality herbal medicines
to our clients at no cost.
Do you do anything else besides see clients?
Absolutely! In addition to running the clinic, we provide a number of
classes in the community and offer a week-long herbal intensive class in
the summer. We also have We also have a herbal library and health resource
center. And we have some exciting programs & projects developing, so stay
tuned!
I’d love to get involved. What opportunities are there to work with the
clinic?
There are a few ways you can work with us, and we’re also in the process
of developing a new internship program.
We do currently take applications for receptionists at the clinic. These
folks run the front end of the clinic. You can also help us out by
donating to the clinic (tincture bottles or money). And if you’re a
practitioner and want to volunteer your services to your community, get in
touch with us and tell us about yourself.
